I am John Cartwright, an experienced teacher and private tutor
Many students need help in catching up following the C19 disruption and other changes in their learning environments.
Use the 'contact' tabs or a simple email to jc_12311@ymail.com From experience I understand that students have different modes of coping in education, and some of them to find it difficult approaching certain subjects. Not all students perform at the same level, and not all of them share the same views with respect to subject matter presented in class. This has become increasingly important to deal with as some students feel unable to be honest. I can help them to fulfill their abilities without compromising their principles. I tutor & support students to help them make the best of their abilities. One to one or small group teaching helps pupils to focus more accurately on specific problem topics. Successful students who have above average grades can still benefit further from having personal tutors who help maintain or improve their grades. My interest in education was invigorated when I was being trained at Mansfield College, Oxford under the auspices of The Congregational Federation. I had not previously encountered the exhilarating practices of criticality. My work in teaching has been an attempt to replicate that academic excitement amongst the students that I teach. My own school experience was not stimulating, and I have tried with some success to make the intense exam training that is the practice in State education into a stimulating educational experience. My intention in leaving teaching to establish a tutoring practice is to be able to assist students of all sorts to develop criticality. For those who want these skills for application to universities and other institutions using admission testing, this assistance will improve their chances of success. However, developing an evaluative approach can only improve our experiences, as Socrates is reported to have said; “the unexamined life is not worth living.” For most of my teaching career, I have been involved in preparing candidates for entrance examinations, and for interviews, so that they can have improved opportunities to access to the major universities and also medical and veterinary schools. I have also built successful Philosophy and Critical Thinking departments in a very large secondary school. More recently, I have been involved in teaching Latin, and in setting up a Classics course. If you are thinking about a personal tuition get in touch. |
